8 Day Possible Itinerary - Exploring the Kruger National Park

Day 1 - Arrive in South Africa

It all starts when you arrive at the local Kruger International Airport (KMIA). This is where we will welcome you and take you through to your base for the next few nights, the little town of White River (10 mins from the airport). Stay tonight at a lovely B&B. The perfect place to relax after your journey to Africa.

Day 2 - Day in White River to relax

Spend the day exploring the region. We have a vehcile so we will be able to move around freely. The Jane Goodal Chimpanzee Sanctuary is nearby, and there is also the opportunity to interact and even ride rehabilitated African Elephants at Elephant Whisperers in Hazyview.

Day 3 - Head out on Safari

Today you will head into the wilderness that is the Kruger National Park. Enjoy the morning and a good breakfast, no need to rush. You will be transfered through to meet your trail guide who will then drive you out into a remote section of this vast reserve. You will leave the world behind as you go deep into an area where the only other inhabitants are the animals. Enjoy the drive in an open 4x4 vehicle that takes you deep into the bush. Your home is a small camp full of rustic charm and basic necessities.

Day 4 - A day in the wilderness

You will be woken early before the sunrise and have just enough time to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee before you set out on a walk. Before the walk your guides will explain what is needed to safely walk in "Big Five" territory (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo). You are in good hands though so dont worry. (see "what is it all about" for more details)

Return from your long morning walk and enjoy lunch in camp and a good rest (siesta time) before you head out again in the late afternoon to explore and see more of the area.

Day 5 - A day in the wilderness

Today is a repeat of the previous day, except that you will cover new ground and walk in different areas. No two walks (or drives) are ever the same and you never know what new and exciting aspects you might discover. Breathe it all in and enjoy the solitude. They take your phones and watches away when you start the trip so you are forced to embrace the experience in its entirety.

Day 6 - Back to reality

After a hearty breakfast in camp you will leave this little piece of heaven and be driven back in the open vehcile to one of the parks main camps. Your tour leader will then drive you to your next stop in the park. You will be staying within the Kruger National Park for the next 2 days so the adventure isnt over just yet.

The accomodation is a step up in terms of comfort level although you will still feel very much like you are in the wild.

Day 7 - Experience the Park  

A whole day to relax and enjoy the reserve. Your tour leader will take you out on a drive (closed vehicle) in the morning and again in the afternoon to go in search of wildlife. Game spotting in Kruger is a mix of luck, skill, and patience. With a combination of these I am sure we will find some interesting sightings today.

In the afternoon you might alternatively wish to head out with the National Parks Ranger who are able to come back to camp after dark allowing you to experience a night drive (this would be for your personal account)

Day 8 - What's Next?

African Avenue can organise for you to stay on and explore more of what Southern Africa has to offer. You might like to fly down to Cape Town and sample some of the Cape wines, or perhaps hop on a plane and visit the magestic Victoria Falls. Contact us for more ideas on what's available.
